Cafe 57 sits on the edge of University of Chicago's campus, tucked away under the Metra Railroad tracks. Commuters form a large portion of our clientele. Next are our hard core, devoted neighbors, college students (often staring into their laptops) and tourists taking the train from downtown to the Museum of Science and Industry. Going forward, Cafe 57 is in a prime location to be the destination stop for cyclists traveling down the lakefront from the North Side and Northern Suburbs. Think upscale Bohemian. Stainless steel chairs and tables, warm colors, soft R&B and pop music in the background, ceramic floor tiles and a menu that used to boast paninis and gelato along with Intelligentsia coffee, biscoti and bottled drinks. No soft drinks here. The fare is strictly Vitamin Water, bottled water and San Pellegrino. Iced coffee drinks rule the menu during the summer when outside seating kicks in. We will offer locally made ice cream and begin to include more locally made baked goods.
